This happened to me as well. I fixed it by running gsettings reset org.gnome.shell app-picker-layout
I fixed it by running
gsettings reset org.gnome.shell app-picker-layout
It worked after disabling Dash to dock. There's a conflict between these two. Do you use dash to dock?

I don't use dash to dock.
I don't have any animation bugs, however: Super + a doesn't work consistently; sometimes it shows no apps and if I press it again it works again.

If I re-enable Dash to Dock or Floating Dock the
Super + a doesn't work consistently; sometimes it shows no apps and if I press it again it works again.
Will happens again. Also, if I move some apps and change the order in apps grid this issue will happens too.
@Gzman I also have the same bug with super + a. I think this may be caused by a downstream patch onto Pop! Session, because installing the default gnome-session
makes the problem go away. If any dev reads this they could guide us onto providing logs or something :3
I'm not seeing any issues with Super + a
, and gnome-session
is not installed.
Your package logs show 3.38.1
, but have you updated to 3.38.2
yet?
I'm using 3.38.2
Also no extensions like dash to dock or others installed, still Super + a shows nothing:

..however: Super + a doesn't work consistently..
I have to correct myself; it works consistently but I can reproduce the blank activity view the following way:
Is that behaviour intentional? Also Super + h and Super + d don't work for me too.
There is an upstream issue on GNOME's bug tracker for Super-A not working consistently: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/3451
A fix has already been merged upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/1532
That means this issue will be fixed with the next minor update of GNOME Shell, if the fix is not backported into Pop!_OS sooner. (According to this page, GNOME Shell 3.38.3 is supposed to release around January 9th.)
