Before updatre to 21.10, I was able to make the topbar transparent with extension. Since the 21.10 update, the behavior is erratic.
Every time the screen is locked or a screensaver starts the bar loses it's transparency. I can consistently fix it with a reboot or by running "r" in alt+F2, so rebooting the shell.
The extension I use works well with Fedora 35 last update. Just Pop Os 21.10 that breaks it. (https://github.com/lamarios/gnome-shell-extension-transparent-top-bar/issues/7)
Maybe you had a "!important" somewhere on the css for the top bar background...
I really whish I could go back to be able to have it transparent.
