Why

Many people want to be able to use encryption with the custom install option, but currently there's no way to achieve this in the UI at the moment.

How

Has there been any continuation of this feature request? I've borked my system a few times while trying to arrange partitions manually. I've seen in screenshots that the earlier versions used the Ubuntu installer and that one works fine. Would it be problematic to install using an earlier version of the .iso and just updating to current?

Is there any update of this feature? I have tried to install Pop! OS on my new lenovo laptop. Due to work requirements there is a need of dual boot + disk encryption. However there's no option to do so during the customized installation. Thanks!

I just installed PopOS 20.04 from USB key to an existing partition on my old Thinkpad, because I had Windows10 and some old Ubuntu16.04 installtion I wanted to replace with PopOS. I figured that I needed to create the LUKS volume before I start the install with gnome disks app. Then I was able to unlock the LUKS partition in the installer and successfully install the OS. But when booting it dropped into busybox. So there must be some additional problems with custom installs. I found the following article (https://support.system76.com/articles/bootloader/) helpful, but it didn't solve my problem. After booting into the live system and chrooting into the LUKS partition I found out that there was no /etc/crypttab entry for my cryptdata (root) partition. I added it and ran update-initramfs -c -k all like stated in the support article. After that I was asked for the LUKS passphrase at boot time and could successfully boot the OS. It would be really helpful, if custom installs would also work more flawless to also help users that cannot buy your laptops because (like me) they live outside the US. It makes no sense to pay extra tax and have to return a device to US if there are any hardware issues. Nevertheless I like your distro and would like to help improve it for more users...

Installer is simply broken if it does not create correct crypttab
