Black Screen after wake up from sleep #1943

Open himanshubisht0885 opened 2 years ago

himanshubisht0885 commented 2 years ago

Distribution (run cat /etc/os-release):

NAME="Pop!_OS" VERSION="20.04 LTS" ID=pop ID_LIKE="ubuntu debian" PRETTY_NAME="Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS" VERSION_ID="20.04" HOME_URL="https://pop.system76.com" SUPPORT_URL="https://support.system76.com" BUG_REPORT_URL="https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues" PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://system76.com/privacy" VERSION_CODENAME=focal UBUNTU_CODENAME=focal LOGO=distributor-logo-pop-os

Issue/Bug Description:

When Pop os goes to sleep so does the monitor. When I wake it up by pressing keyboard button the monitor wakes up but it keeps switching between inputs but still no display. But when I switch my HDMI cable from graphics card to on board graphics it detects and displays, even if I switch back to graphics card's HDMI out still no display.

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

Enter Sleep mode just by doing nothing it goes to it automatically. Then wake it up by pressing keyboard keys or moving mouse around.

Expected behavior: No display from graphics card but onboard graphics runs properly

Facing same problem on Pop OS 21.04 (NVIDIA)

Steps to reproduce: Enter Sleep mode just by closing the laptop lid. Then wake it up by pressing keyboard keys.

Expected behavior: User should be able to see the lockscreen.

Actual behavior: The lockscreen appears after wake up for a brief second but the display goes dark immediately after that. User then has only one choice - force shutdown (by which any unsaved work gets lost). After restart, no problem seems to appear. The problem is related to wake up after sleep only.

My device info is stated below:

I am having the same issue with my galago Pro (galp5) with pop!_os 22.04. After the most recent occurrence I rebooted and generated logs using the System76 driver utility. I can open a ticket in your service portal and send the logs if that will help.

The same problem as you. Pop!_OS is one of my favourite Linux distributions, but this problem is genuinely annoying. After closed and opened the lid, the lockscreen would appear once (or sometimes for several times) only for a short time even if keep pressing any key. Even if the lockscreen appears, I could not type password. The only choice is shutting down by pressing the power key.

Edit: just got it again yesterday. Maybe it's some weird race condition with the graphics card?

I think the problem might be related to the screen resolution. Maybe the problem occur on a laptop with a high screen resolution? I'm not sure.

The official page about details of the product (N/A, sold out): https://www.mi.com/shop/buy/detail?product_id=10000237

I plan to replace the system on the previous laptop with other distribution. Consider using the Pop!_OS on this computer as the main OS.

KohChia commented 1 year ago

By the way, I used LVM on the later instance of Pop!_OS (as the image below), but on the previous laptop I created partitions for Pop!_OS along with the partitions for Windows in one disk (M.2 NVMe SSD), so that they share the same EFI partition. part I would test whether the problem exist on Pop!_OS installed on LVM on the other laptop of mine mentioned above.

KohChia commented 1 year ago

Both laptops have built-in 512GB SSDs, I had added 1TB SSD of the same model for both, and also all the size, count and name of the partitions on both laptops are the same. The major differences are screen resolution, the CPU, and the GPU model. I will create a LVM as the previous one and re-install latest Pop!_OS and then check whether the problem still exist. The partitions on another laptop (Mechrevo Limitless 16 Pro) currently: part
