[HP EliteBook 8540p] pop-os_21.10_amd64_intel_3.iso no mouse or desktop #2119

Distribution (run cat /etc/os-release):

pop-os_21.10_amd64_intel_3.iso

Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME):

installer/ first boot

Issue/Bug Description:

when i first try to install https://pop-iso.sfo2.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/21.10/amd64/intel/3/pop-os_21.10_amd64_intel_3.iso the mouse cursor is missing completely or transparent and after first boot i get only a black screen and no desktop. note i'm currently running (pop-os_20.04_amd64_intel_35.iso) with no issues.

Steps to reproduce (if you know): boot live-cd normally and install to the hard drive

Expected behavior: mouse cursor while using live-cd and a desktop after first boot

Other Notes:

my laptop is an

product: HP EliteBook 8540p (NU486AV) vendor: Hewlett-Packard Graphics vendor: NVIDIA Corporation driver=nouveau product: GT216M [NVS 5100M]

Graphics vendor: NVIDIA Corporation driver=nouveau

If your system has NVIDIA graphics, you should be using the NVIDIA iso, not the Intel/AMD iso. If you try the NVIDIA iso, does it boot to the desktop?

I've downloaded and did a fresh install of the pop-os_21.10 NVIDIA edition and yes I am now able to use the mouse in the live-boot media and on first boot-up I also have a working desktop, However; now my graphics resolution is at 640×480 4:3 mode and I'm not getting the option to change it.
