Steam spamming Gnome Logs with Glib error. Possibly a conflict with POP OS? #2207

Whenever I have Steam launched and even in the background or up it's spamming the error every minute on both my Desktop and Think-pad with POP OS 20.04. The error is this.

Feb 07 09:28:58 gnome-session[2756]: gnome-session-binary[2756]: GLib-CRITICAL: Failed to set scheduler settings: Operation not permitted Feb 07 09:28:58 gnome-session-binary[2756]: GLib-CRITICAL: Failed to set scheduler settings: Operation not permitted

It's happening ever since I rebooted both my custom built Desktop and Think-Pad.

Though I think it may be in relation with the latest POP OS update possibly with

I'm not seeing it on my test machine here on my lab unit will checkout my desktop at home this evening.

Are you sure that it is steam that is causing the issue?

How did you determine the cause of the message?

Also it's worth noting that there are multiple schedulers on the system. The system76-scheduler reports similar to the below:

system76-scheduler[1014]: SetForegroundProcess(2998)

I'am since I tested it while steam wasn't running either on my desktop or laptop. As long as steam wasn't running the error wouldn't appear.

@Redbatman89 is it the deb version of Steam or the flatpak?

Disregard, I tried the flatpak and still don't see the message. Will need to do more digging.

.deb on both Desktop and ThinkPad

I am seeing the error in question, on 20.04 now. However, it's not spamming the logs like what you're seeing and only occurs when the system changes focus to and from steam. Do you have any extensions or other applications running that might be stealing focus in timed intervals?

Also it's worth noting that this could be a Gnome issue as it doesn't present itself in versions > 36. So the issue doesn't exist in 20.10 which uses Gnome 40.

Well I also have Discord and Telegram I use too. So I noticed that when the system changes focus the error does occur, but when I leave it alone and not play any games or do anything then it doesn't appear. When checking gnome logs it appears, this happens on both Desktop and Laptop.

I have the same problem but running the latest PopOS version on a Thelio R1. I can still run games on Steam, but I am unable to run long war in XCOM 2, due to g-lib errors. In the worst case scenario, I've had it happen that I will get the error that pipewire Xopendisplay() failed and then Gnome could not create the window and it will hang the entire system. It seems related to the same issue of PopOS running Steam? I could open a different one if you think it's unrelated.

This is the. Deb version FYI, but I tried on flat pack and get identical errors
