The fastboot command is about two years out of date and without workaround, I'm unable to flash recent Android factory images to an android device.

Just fetch the latest platform-tools binaries from https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-linux.zip unzip and move the binaries to appropriate places
