M108Falcon commented 4 years ago

(1) Issue/Bug Description: Show window titles feature works unreliably. If turned off and new application gets launched, it still shows windows titles. To remove them, you have to toggle the feature again.

(2) Steps to reproduce (if you know):

  1. Click on the Pop-Shell gnome extension
  2. Click on the show window titles option to toggle it.

(3) Expected behavior: The windows titles should be turned off completely and remain off for applications if launched afterwards.

(4) Distribution (run cat /etc/os-release): Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS

(5) Gnome Shell version: 3.36.4

(6) Pop Shell version (run apt policy pop-shell or provide the latest commit if building locally):

1.0.0~1603994289~20.04~ecc9b38

(7) Where was Pop Shell installed from: System Update

(8) Monitor Setup (2 x 1080p, 4K, Primary(Horizontal), Secondary(Vertical), etc): 1 x 1080p@144hz(Horizontal)

(9) Other Installed/Enabled Extensions: Applications Menu Color Picker Hide Activities Button Lock Keys Places Status Indicator Refresh Wifi Connections Removable Drive Menu

(10) Other Notes:

Hello @M108Falcon, I think providing list/screenshots of applications that experience window title issues would be very helpful.

@jmmaranan can I share a short screen capture?

I've found one way to reproduce it. Adding a screencast of it, but basic scenario was 4 Alacritty windows. Have "Show Window Titles" switch Off with Pop shell. Then I lock the screen, when i unlock the screen all my windows have titles again. Pop shell "Show Window Titles" switch is still off.

Can confirm this issue happens to me too, exactly as @skela described/displayed. I'm using completely vanilla Pop!_OS 20.04 LTS Just found I'm able to reliably reproduce simply by using the Super + M hotkey to maximize a window, then Super + M again restores the exact tiled state perfectly except the previously maximized window now has a title bar. The rest remain off.

I have the issue when returning from lock screen always need to toggle the switch. I was playing with other extensions it appears https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1732/gtk-title-bar/ does not have this issue.
