Unable to select/keep focus on menubar items

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open PLS/NPAIRS gui in a tiling window manage (ratpoison)
2. Attempt to select a menu item

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The menu items are unclickable, and do not keep focus. The only way to select 
menu items is to use the "alt+" keyboard shortcuts.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
plsnpairs - all versions. 
Fedora 11, ratpoison 1.4.1
