For multi-way buildings, tag the corresponding relation, not the way. Just make this functionality specifically for buildings, since you don't necessarily want to do this with roads.

We'd really want a full-blown relation functionality for this. Would be nice in a future version. In particular, it would be useful for editing highways, since relations are very common. Also, admin boundaries could be a very interesting use case.
