Fedora 19 font characters not showing up

I tried both the methods 'fontconfig' and 'patched fonts' - None work. The special characters don't show up.

I even tried putting the conf file in both the directories specified.. but didn't work.

OS: Fedora 19 x86_64 Terminal: gnome-terminal

Same issue on OpenSUSE 12.3. Any tips?

Fixed my issue with replacing powerline with airline and changing my shell theme. Take a look at table here https://powerline.readthedocs.org/en/latest/fontpatching.html to see actual symbol codes.
