Cookie Flex Rig https://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/61707 (The Cookie Flex Rig is more than just a rig. It can be used to make verious characters. There are 3 bones which have custom shapes with the appearance of a 2D man. If these 3 bones are selected, various slider and other controls appear on the right side of the 3D view and you can use these controls to make characters.)

Hello @powroupi and everyone! I have the idea that mmd_tools will be used to convert models and animations to and from MMD. So I have been collecting some download links which are relevant to achieving this goal, and you can see the links which I have compiled above in my last several posts in this issue. :-)

Hogarth-MMD commented 6 years ago

The cookie flex rig character has a couple of issues with materials. His skin is darker after exporting from Blender. That happens because he has color management sRGB in Blender but MMD has color management None. I have no %^&** idea of how to make a color correction for that. The alpha channel of one of the texture images causes part of his skin to be invisible after exporting from Blender.

When I tried to export a character from DAZ Studio, I got a weird error message "must be a Triax weight-mapped character" or something like that. So the DAZ Studio Blender add-on didn't work for me because I couldn't export a character or scene from DAZ Studio.

The Sims 3 armature is an interesting, complicated armature. For conversion to MMD, the main complicating factor seems to be the Sims 3 twist and untwist bones.

The Sintel Lite armature and the Cookie Flex Rig armature are both variants of the Rigify armature. The Sintel Lite bone names have an error. .R and .L are appearing in the middle of Sintel Lite bone names, but they should appear at the end of the bone names.

Sounds like he has uncorrected gamma. What you might try is taking the value of each pixel of the texture and taking it to the 1/2.2 power, which is a likely gamma chosen for the model. Not for alpha channel though. There are multiple ways to do this, and it's probably possible in Blender, but I'd prefer to do it elsewhere because I don't know enough about how to keep Blender from being "smart" about gamma correction. Using an emission shader to bake textures read as non-color data, separated to individual values and processed with math nodes rather than color tools, is what I would try.

How do we export the Sims 2 characters into Blender? This is a complex multi-stage process. Sorry, I have no tutorial about this to offer yet. Each Sims character in a Sims2Pack file consists of several package files. You need import these package files into SimPE and then export the parts of the character to .smd files from SimPE, and then import the .smd files into Blender using the Source Tools add-on. Before importing into Blender you need to correct the .smd files in a text editor. You need to get rid of all of the spaces at the ends of lines. That can be done by a find-and-replace operation in Notepad++, for example. I just spent hours trying to make a bug fix for the Blender .smd importer, but I have not succeeded in doing that.

In Sims 2 are 4728 animations. I would like to be able to export these animations to Blender and MMD, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to do that yet. SimPE cannot export them to any file format which can be imported into Blender.

Animation & ANIM Files (topic in the Mod the Sims forum) http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=428

Where are the Sims 2 animations located? They are located in a file called Sims00.package, which can be imported into SimPE. Here are 2 examples of file locations where you can find the Sims 2 animations:

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sims3D\Sims00.package C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\Sims3D\Sims00.package

Sims 3 animations location: Program Files(x86)/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Game Data/Shared/Packages/fullbuild0.package

Sims 4 animations location: \Data\Client\ClientFullBuild0.package

Here is what you can find in these other Sims 2 packages:

Sims00.package animations Sims01.package cinematic scenes and lighting Sims02.package materials definitions Sims03.package geometric data containers Sims04.package geometric nodes Sims05.package shapes Sims06.package shapes and texture images Sims07.package texture images Sims08.package large image files Sims09.package large image files Sims10.package large image files Sims11.package large image files Sims12.package large image files Sims13.package large image files

gamma correction code snippet:

import bpy

g = 1/2.2
bpy.ops.object.mode_set(mode = "OBJECT")
for m in bpy.data.materials:
    m.diffuse_color[0] = m.diffuse_color[0]**g
    m.diffuse_color[1] = m.diffuse_color[1]**g
    m.diffuse_color[2] = m.diffuse_color[2]**g
bpy.context.scene.display_settings.display_device = 'None'
nathanvasil commented 6 years ago

Yeah, you can do that in a node as well-- that's exactly what you're doing when you specify that an image should be read as non-color data. (Interpreting it as color does degamma before lighting, raising data to the 2.2 power.)

Or you can run it through a separate RGB, raise to 1/2.2 power, and recombine RGB, same thing.

Hogarth-MMD commented 6 years ago

My gamma correction code snippet above may be flawed. In addition to the Blender diffuse color, there is also the mmd_tools diffuse and ambient colors, material changes which happen as a result of the mmd_tools convert model operator, cycles vs. Blender render differences. The sRGB color space, I think, is also somewhat more complicated than the simple formula being used above. Also I am not sure if there are any materials changes which happen when a model is exported from Blender.

Here are some more free bvh files, from the Second Life online game: http://static-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/downloads/avatar/bvh_files.zip

The link to this file is on this page of the Second Life wiki: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Internal_Animations

The Second Life armature is using the same bone names as the DAZ/Poser armature, so its bones can be renamed using the Bones Renamer operator of mmd_tools_helper. The bvh files don't include eye bones or toe bones or finger bones.
