Yessssssssssssss
Not only are these maps high quality, but they also provide a huge variety in both mapping styles and song choices. This is great for offering options to both newer players and experienced players that might not be exposed to these maps otherwise
For now, we can just add it to the sidebar, and show 5 latest news update with thumbnails. I'll add keep in mind about this in the new dashboard design.
This needs some design consideration. Spotlight charts can apparently have up to 12 beatmaps in them, which doesn't really work in the current page layout. The right sidebar becomes ridiculously tall relative to the rest of the content.
as a temporary fix, instead of showing the top 5 most played, it could show the top 5 most played out of the current spotlight selections
top 5 most played out of current spotlights seems reasonable - beyond that, a random sample per-view of any 5 maps from the pack also seems fair
this probably needs to be elevated in priority again - the Spotlights project is due to be revived again in a couple of weeks and if it just ends up meeting the same fate as the previous two iterations due to lack of interest from web/in-game implementation, there's sort of no point
As discussed with @nanaya we plan on changing the formula here to avoid stagnant display. Going to bump the priority of this issue to track that task.
@Ephemeralis is this still a priority now that we have a more dynamic most played listing? Spotlights already get news posts which is quite prominent.
The monthly Beatmap Spotlight should be shown instead of (or alongside) most played maps, as these are picks verified to be of high quality by the spotlights team. Stems from discussion in #modding on osu!dev.
Spotlights are currently associated with monthly ranking charts (https://osu.ppy.sh/p/chart) and medals, as well as beatmap packs. Any display will need to incorporate all game modes - perhaps default to the user's preferred playstyle to determine what maps to show?
