Hmm, your issue is not reproduced on my machine. Is there any logs in /var/log/system.log?
Not much to go on but I found this:
Jan 25 21:17:21 rbook.local WindowServer[172]: CGError post_notification(const CGSNotificationType, void *const, const size_t, const bool, const CGSRealTimeDelta, const int, const CGSConnectionID *const, const pid_t): Timed out 1.000 second wait for reply from "PCKeyboardHack" for synchronous notification type 102 (kCGSDisplayWillSleep) (CID 0x1150b, PID 354)
I'll check the other machine later.
Thank you for confirmation.
When the installer works well, these logs are shown on system.log. I guess that you can find the first line (mounted PCKeyboardHack) in your system.log, but these procedure has been stopped by unknown errors.

The installer freezes on automatic update on machine restart and has to be killed. This has happened on two machines running the latest Mavericks.
