Operating system environment variables are automatically added to spacemacs.env when Emacs starts and available immediately.
To add environment variables while Emacs is running (TODO: check this is so, and see if the REPL needs to restart to pick them up)
SPC f e e to edit spacemacs.env directory make changes SPC f e E to load the changes into Emacs and start using them straight away.
