Feature request: change user agent string in preferences #261

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Hello, I would like to make a feature request on this great project but I don't
know where to send
it so I'll make it here.

I'm a Magic Jack user an my magic jack settings work great in Siphon. I've made
and received
many calls with it. One concern I have though is at some point MagicJack may
start logging what
user agent is sent at signon and ban accounts or reset account passwords if the
User agent
string is not correct. I recall a few months ago I configured my Linksys
PAP2T-NA sip phone
adapter to connect to magic jack. It worked fine but every 24hours my sip
account password
would be reset by MagicJack and I would have to re-extract it from my MagicJack
dongle.
Recently I discovered that I could change the user agent string the Linksys
phone adapter sends
at registration. I used the Magic Jack string I got for the latest version
software with a packet
capture. The Linksys phone adapter has now been running for 3 days and no
password resets
have been made on the account by MagicJack.

Just so my Siphon usage goes under the radar, I think they have one lol, I
think it would be great
if in the Siphon preferences there would be a field where I could enter any
User Agent string I
want and Siphon would use that instead of the default.

Could samuelv0304 and the rest of you please tell me what you think. Also if
this is not the place
to be making feature requests please tell me where is the place to do so.

Thanks.
Odin.

We tested this solution with shahramzm (see issue 245) without success :-(
Perhaps you can complete issue 245 and talk with shahramzm to test your idea.

I uploaded a new version that should work with Magic Jack without proxy :
http://code.google.com/p/siphon/downloads/list

I gave instructions for installation on this page :
http://code.google.com/p/siphon/wiki/InstallationGuideForJailbreak

I have tried this and still will not work without running the proxy mjmd5. I
installed it by putting the file in the cydia autoinstall folder and rebooting,
then
turning the magicjack switch on in the siphon advanced setting.

could you enabled log file on Siphon (detailed level), try to connect and send
me or
post here the log file ?
Could you send me log of your proxy ? I need the message before and after cross
over
proxy.

It could be possible to integrate the MJMD5 program into siphon to get it to
work.

I released a beta test version with mjmd5 but I never received any comment.

I have the beta version but it seems not to work unless I direct my phone at my
desktop. If you need anything, then let me know and I will post. I know how
hard it can
be to get programs working properly.

I was wondering if it would be possible to do what dl20010 said, integrate the
MJMD5
into the siphon program, and when the switch is turned on it should run MJMD5
and
ask for the city proxy, then use that along with the rest of the details to do:

1)Use the information that you provided in the Siphon details(like the
username,
port, city proxy, password).

2)Create your own proxy using the iphone ip address, and fill in the server and
proxy ports accordingly in siphone, all automatically.

for example if you enter all your details and your iphone ip is 192.165.1.70,
then
it should put this automatically:

Settings
Server: 192.165.1.70

Advanced
Proxy Server: 192.165.1.70:5070

or

Settings
Server: localhost

Advanced
Proxy Server: localhost:5070

I dunno if its possible, but its worth a shot, then if a new update comes out,
integrate with a new version of MJMD5

MJMD5 receives sip message and updates authentication sip message only.
I added this calculation in Siphon, but it seems I made an error, I will fix
this
issue. But I don't have Magick Jack account so it's not easy to debug.

I would be willing to collaborate and test it for you and send you the log
files or
whatever you need.

If it would be easier I can share my account credentials with you so you may
debug
it?

Let me know what I can do to help

I am also willing to provide log files or whatever you require. I am not that
fond of
giving my credentials out, though. Let me know what you need and I will send it
to you.

I can even provide programming abilities to help you out.

I hear this is open source. How would I go about getting a copy of the source?

Original comment by dl200...@gmail.com on 19 Feb 2010 at 2:56

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
there is a 2.2.0 copy if you go to source and type the link without the last
part,
2.2.1 hasn't been made an official release yet
