A bit of colour in the emoticons would be nice. Unfortunately we can't use the ones you linked to due to the license. Know of any others?
these are nice: http://bad-blood.deviantart.com/art/Y-o-l-k-s-78118255 and http://bad-blood.deviantart.com/art/Y-o-l-k-s-2-85269598. It doesn't hurt to ask ^^
Kiwi IRC is free software, which means that users have the following four freedoms:
Freedom 0: The freedom to run the program for any purpose. Freedom 1: The freedom to study how the program works, and change it to make it do what you wish. Freedom 2: The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbour. Freedom 3: The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements (and modified versions in general) to the public, so that the whole community benefits.
Their license states that "selling, editing, distributing or profiting from these emoticons is not allowed" which would infringe on freedoms 2, 3 and possibly 1.
Everything that is in the git repo for Kiwi is either licensed under the GNU Affreo General Public License, under a license that is compatible with the AGPL (MIT, 3-clause BSD and WTFPL, specifically) or, as is the case with the current emoticon set, public domain.

I¹m unsure about the licences, but Adium is a widespread GPL soft that distributes several Emoticon packs. They are visible here : https://hg.adium.im/adium/file/8adea39f58ed/Resources/Emoticons
Maybe they have solved the licensing issues with that selection of emoticons.

It would be great to replace these grey emoticons. Users like colors.
Resizable Inputfield for long Messages and colorful Emoticons, because the grey ones are so depressing. Maybe these: http://graphicriver.net/item/matte-motes-emoticon-set/33923
