[x] At the end to the first paragraph under Input Data Requirements add: “Not all input modules will be needed by all users. Skip those input modules that are not applicable to your situation.”
[x] Question: Text currently says, “Users can view real-time financial impacts by viewing the budget table on the right-hand side of your screen.” This doesn’t appear when using a smartphone. Should we specify somewhere at the beginning that this DST is designed to best be used with a computer or tablet and does not work well with a smartphone?
Planting Decisions
[x] The first paragraph currently says, “Input per acre costs associated with using an airplane by selecting "hire custom operator"; on the drop-down menu.” The design of the drop-down menu has changed. This sentence should now read, “Input per acre costs associated with using an airplane by selecting "aerial seeding” under the “Hire custom operator" heading in the drop-down menu.”
[x] I inadvertently hit the “x” rather than the dropdown arrow on the planting box. It caused the screen to go totally gray. I think it should just ignore the click on the “x.”
i) BTW – I used the refresh button on my browser to get back into the program. It started the program where I was (Planting Decisions tab) and allowed me to enter information. But all the information on previous tabs was absent. In an ideal situation, I would not have been able to access Planting Decisions without first having Farm and Field completed.
ii) BTW2 –When I started over from Field and Farm, on the Seeds tab, I hit the “x” on crop seed species and it did NOT make the program quit.
Herbicide
[x] Please add three rows to the bottom of this tab that mimic the three rows on the bottom of the Tillage tab and enter the appropriate calculations for each row. Rows to add:
i) Herbicide cost reductions due to adopting cover crop.
ii) Herbicide cost increases due to adopting cover crop.
iii) Net impact of adopting cover crop on herbicide costs.
(1) The number calculated here will be the one that currently shows up in the Summary
table.
Grazing
[x] Change “Do you intend to lease your cover crop acres to a livestock producer (not graze them with your operation).” To “Do you intend to lease your cover crop acres to a livestock producer (not graze them with your own cattle).”
Additional Considerations
[x] Change: “payments from companies aggregated voluntary carbon offsets” to “payments from companies aggregating voluntary carbon offsets
Yield
[x] A user who chooses “Use cover crop adjusted yield estimates from the table above” must also select an choice in the “Do you want your financial analysis to be based on anticipated yields in years 1, 3, or 5?” in order to get a result in the summary table. One of two ways to fix this:
i) Have “1” selected as a default so it automatically works if they overlook this question. This is my preference.
ii) Do not let the user advance to “Next: summary” if they do not enter a choice. As a computer programmer you may know this is better so you are free to do what is best from a programming standpoint.
Summary
[x] Seeds planted does not have correct data. It shows no pounds and $0.00/pound. But the Summary table shows that I have a $45.00 seed price.
[x] Herbicide modifications to normal cropping system reports Fall herbicide equipment used but does not report the input from the question “Implementing cover crops will allow you to forgo a fall herbicide application. What is the estimated reduction (savings) of herbicide cost on a per acre basis?” It should be reported.
[x] Input from Yield module is not fully reported.
i) Proper working
(1) If the user checks, Enter my own estimated yield change” and provides a number, it shows up at the bottom of the Summary tab.
(2) If the user checks, “Use cover crop adjusted yield estimates from the table above” AND provides a choice to “Do you want your financial analysis to be based on anticipated yields in years 1, 3, or 5?,” everything appears as needed at the bottom of the Summary tab.
ii) Improper working
(1) If the user checks, “Use cover crop adjusted yield estimates from the table above” AND DOES NOT provide a choice to “Do you want your financial analysis to be based on anticipated yields in years 1, 3, or 5?,” nothing appears under Yield at the bottom of the Summary tab. I think this improper function will be fixed by fixing the Yield module as I mentioned above.
(2) If the user checks “No change in yield estimates” it should report “No change in yield estimates at the bottom of the Summary table under “Yield”.
(3) Add a line under Yield in the Summary table that specifies the commodity price being used (from the Yield tab).
Revenue Impact
[x] Can the acreage be put on the end of the Table title? For example: “Economic Effects of Cover Crops on FSA Farm Number: 1234, FSA Field No. 5678 (45 acres).” This will give clarity to what the Total columns refer to.
