Hi, Preslav! Thanks for an article! I've been using Grayscale for a whole 2-years or something - on and off. It is really a personal preference. Yeah, sure, it makes your phone suck. You will likely look at it less, but the problem is that you are going to compensate on it somewhere else. Mindset should change.

Also, I've a few symptoms of an ADHD, thus making my phone or laptop suck, make my work suck. And stuck :) So, be aware of that too. YMMV.

As for me, I just quit social media. Deleted time sucking apps (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) Start being aware of that is going on with me (with some success :) ). Meditation can definitely help with that.

So, to not make it blow out of proportion, here my thoughts after 2 years of using Grayscale on and off:

  1. You will look at your phone less. It will suck for a few weeks/months. But you may start compensating. Be aware.
  2. Deleting social media got me better results
  3. Mindfulness helps
  4. Checking for ADHD symptoms is a good idea

Hope it helps, have a great day!

@keeprock Indeed, you are right about the compensation part. It's like cutting any bad habit - cut smoking cigarettes, and you turn to binge-eating to make up for it. It's the general change in mentality that needs some re-tuning. So far, the only real social media app I am addicted to is Twitter. I cannot really get rid of that because of my business. But I am actively looking for reasons to use it less and less. I even built a tool that sends me one daily email with the important news from my Twitter timeline, so I don't have to look at it :).
