If you have Windows 7 64-bits, there is one more registry key to be deleted.
According with http://support.preyproject.com/kb/installation/i-removed-the-prey-folder-by-hand-and-now-cannot-reinstall-windows these are the registry keys you must uninstall.
HKLM\Software\Prey HKCU\Software\Prey HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Prey
Also check that there is no key referencing to Prey in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
I've got a 64-bit Windows 7. I'm a moron and during the Prey installation tried to install Prey into a read-only folder (C:\Windows/System32/icsxml). It didn't work, but when I tried to re-install Prey, the installer recognized that Prey had been previously installed and required it to be uninstalled before proceeding. The uninstall failed.
I tried ways to stop the installer from recognizing Prey on the system - I deleted CronService in System and deleted the CronService entry in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services). Everything's fine, but I still can't install Prey and I'm sure there's more lingering in the innards of my operating system. Any suggestions on how to fix this mess?
