Hello @jristz,
Could you please try to replicate the issue with the latest version of Prey which can be downloaded here?
If you can replicate it, is there any particular output being written in the terminal when running bin/prey config gui
?
Yea, same simprtom same computer, same all, I update the package to 1.3.5 but all is the same.
$ sudo /opt/prey-node-client/bin/prey config gui
Firing up config GUI!
no utput before that, and all the other outputs are the same as my first post
@jristz could you please run cd /usr/lb/prey/current && lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py
and paste the output here?
Also, what version of python is installed in your computer? (python --version
)
Python
Python 3.4.2
Python2
Python 2.7.9
Since Arch have python pointing to python3 from around 2010-2009
and <lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py> keep in mind as I post I have prey in /opt... and that is the only output of prey-config.py in the system so
cd /opt/prey-node-client/lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py
$ /opt/prey-node-client/lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/opt/prey-node-client/lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py", line 20, in <module>
import gtk
ImportError: No module named 'gtk'
and root show the same error. but as I post gtk2 2.24.25-1 and gtk3 3.14.6-1 are installed and pygtk is installed too pygtk 2.24.0-5
and what happens if you explicitly run /opt/prey-node-client/lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py
using the python2 binary?
$ python2 /opt/prey-node-client/lib/conf/gui/linux/prey-config.py
Work, but is not supposed that any python program need to point to the version in the shebang #/usr/bin/python2 as the python guidelines in the python page show/ask/suggest?
Thanks, we we're not aware of the PEP 394 (which is the guidelines doc you point out, it seems). We will look into the issue to make sure we comply with the recommendations.
Thanks and yes PEP 394 and ArchLinux guideliness too, I will wait the next release, and by the way arch have bash in /usr/bin so I thing could be a good idea point the shevang to the /usr/bin/env bash if in the future Arch (or Fedora) drop the simlinks bin -> usr/bin
And even if now I can run the config this not solve the original issue of bin/prey, but thanks anyway
Do you mean you keep getting Not configured. Waiting for user input...
even after configuring Prey via gui?
I mean that bin/prey not work but lib/prey-config.py work
Oh, you mean running the configurator with bin/prey config gui
. Yes, it won't work in the current state in distros such as Arch, where python ~> python3
. As I said above, we will look into the issue :).
In the meanwhile, running prey-config.py
using Python2 is a nice workaround, and we'll make sure to document it in our help center while we find the best way to deal with the situation.
ok then I will wait happy the fix to test it :)
