No tracking of takeoffs, invalidating currency checks #8

The site appears to currently only have entry fields for day landings and night landings, no takeoffs of either type.

FAA flight currency actually requires 3 takeoffs and 3 landings, which are not necessarily achieved on the same flights, so I'd consider this a major design flaw.

New fields should be added to support day takeoffs and night takeoffs. Currency checks should be extended to require takeoffs in addition to landings.

Is there a way to make a landing without a takeoff? Not really sure this is an issue.

bovine commented 11 years ago

You can make a takeoff during day, but complete the landing at night. However, night currency requires 3 night takeoffs and 3 night landings. It's definitely possible to have enough night landings, but an insufficient number of night takeoffs in the last 90 days. (Or for an overnight flight, the takeoff at night and the landing in the day.)

There is also the possibility where you performed the takeoff but the pilot in the other seat performed the landing.

Are you sure the reg requires both takeoffs and landings? Do you have a citation? Back when I flew metros, my company's spec forbid the FO from ever doing a take off. I still had to be night current to act as a night SIC.

The reason why I left off the takeoff/night takeoff is for simplicity. The 99% case is day landings corresponds to a day takeoff. If you had a takeoff field that means an extra field to have to input when entering flights. It may be more correct, but means more work overall.

PART 61 § 61.57
