I am also wondering about the possibility of managing the spelling of the 1990 spelling corrections (https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Annexe:Rectifications_orthographiques_du_fran%C3%A7ais_en_1990), especially the spelling aout instead of the traditional août.

Could there be alternative spellings for a language?

So typically there is a core language like "fr". If there is a custom dialect such as Canadian French a separate "fr-CA" file can be created. You can see we have 3 different German translations. But as for two that are both French no...we should just use the most popular or common French translations.
