Please open separate issues for each of these. That way, we can properly track when each distinct program has been fixed (or rejected). @nylira, please close this issue on the basis that @blackhold will theoretically be opening new issues to track each program individually.

Cathryne commented 10 years ago

Hello & welcome to GitHub! Best start these as pull requests directly, as explained in the Project Inclusion Guidelines ;-) Thanks and greetings!

hasufell commented 10 years ago

I don't think that office, editing and audio players have any place at prism-break. It's not a list of random opensource projects. It's primarily about encryption, communication, anonymization and other internet-related applications. You can happily run microsoft word within a locked down offline VM and be pretty sure that your data is not compromised. Not the case if you run skype, even within a VM.

vyp commented 10 years ago

Don't think we need to recommend irsii, mutt or mocp (moc?) on the basis that most wouldn't want a TUI/ncurses interface, and those that would will probably find it without http://prism-break.org. =)

strugee commented 10 years ago

Guys, please don't comment here. If you do, it's impossible to properly track each issue. @blackhold, as I said above, p,ease open a new issue for each program or at least a new issue for each category.

hasufell commented 10 years ago

If you do, it's impossible to properly track each issue

The github search includes the whole issue, not just the title.

blackhold commented 10 years ago

sorry, I'll do when I get some free time to do it.

I know. My point was not about finding the issue, rather about tracking its state (fixed, rejected or open).

grepwood commented 9 years ago

Wouldn't Photoshop count as a proprietary productivity software? Currently there is only 1 payment plan for it that doesn't offer cloud storage.

alerque commented 9 years ago

@grepwood PRISM-Break is not about listing open source alternatives to proprietary software. Of course there is a need for such directories (have you tried alternativeto.net?) but this site is about overcoming a specific genre of privacy/security issue and the open source software that can best help people get started with that. As such productivity software really doesn't factor in very much since most of it runs off-line.

@nylira or @Zegnat can we get this issue closed? It's too broad to go anywhere and bring any of these random bits to resolution.

grepwood commented 9 years ago

Yes @alerque I have heard of alt to .net and used it for a long time. My argument for including Photoshop is that it utilizes proprietary cloud service which raises privacy concerns. This case is identical to the use of cloud-based storage in Microsoft Office Web Apps, which is covered by PRISM-Break.

alerque commented 9 years ago

@grepwood Please propose that (and any other) specific case you think holds merit in separate issue requests so they can be properly discussed and resolved.

nodiscc commented 9 years ago

@Zegnat @nylira I think this can be closed. @blackhold has not responded since 1 May 2014. Please let me know if you need help maintaining the issue tracker, I'll be glad to help.
