With the new upcoming features we're starting to need a more thought-out navigation structure for the sidebar. Currently it's just been a list of saved queries, but we will also have to accomodate:
SQL queries
Mutations (possibly lumped together with regular queries)
Project settings
Project datamodel
Project connection details
...
Changes
The final shape of the navigation sidebar is still in flux and needs some iterating. But in general the goal was to make the sidebar less prominent, while still keeping an easy access to all of the possible pages.
The current design proposal would allow to:
Have an expanded view of the sidebar for a full overview (might turn out to be unnecessary)
Collapse individual sections of a full-width-sidebar
Collapse the entire sidebar into a stack of icons indicating the different types of content behind them.
Hover over the collapsed sidebar to reveal a second-level navigation
Press cmd+p to open the sidebar as a searchable modal, that would allow to open- and navigate to new pages just by searching them by their names.
Questions
Do we even need both the collapsed and expanded versions of the sidebar?
