Self Proposed Open Task: TLS Notary in Python

Executive Summary

• Project Overview: Educate on TLS Notary with a Python implementation and a series of blog posts. The primary goal is to teach newcomers about data provenance and provide a deep dive into the internals of TLS Notary, without requiring prior knowledge of cryptography.

Project Details

• Motivation: Web2 users are well aware of the issues surrounding fake content and maliciously edited images. They also understand that HTTPS is more secure than HTTP. However, most don’t realize that the security provided by HTTPS can help address these issues, using recent techniques. This project aims at educating privacy enthusiasts on data provenance, TLS Notary approach, and at showing them how to implement it in practice. We chose to implement TLS Notary in Python because of its simple syntax, enabling us to demonstrate concepts with just a few lines of code.
