I have read about the VPN service providers, but I am aware there are some open-source free (some self-hosted) VPN solutions that might be worth mentioning like OpenVPN or FreeLAN, for example.

Yggdrasil (https://github.com/privacytoolsIO/privacytools.io/issues/685) also has crypto key routing allowing it to work as a traditional VPN.

Another project work evaluating in this space is Mysterium, an experiment with building a decentralized VPN service. My understanding is that its tech would allow multiple vendors to offer competing services on the same network (apparently using a blockchain ... somehow?).

i Recommend adding links to the websites of wireguard and Openvpn on the vpn providers page, thoughts?

Mikaela commented 5 years ago

I don't see a reason not to.

I guess we can then now close this issue as accepted and ask someone kindly for a PR?
