Update Font Awesome or change to Jam Icons #216

Font Awesome currently used is quite out of date. There is a complete refresh of Font Awesome now which makes it more modern and there are more options available.

I know Font Awesome has changed quite a lot and it's no longer playing nicely with ProcessWire there is also Jam Icons which are very nice and modern - https://jam-icons.com/

I personally really like Jam Icons and it will be surprising what a modern icon set can do.

Serious question: what kind of issues do you see with the Font Awesome version currently in use, and/or what would be the benefit of moving on to a new version? What about the "no longer playing nicely with ProcessWire" part – did you mean FA4 or FA5, and how and when do such issues occur?

Note that I'm absolutely not against moving on to FA5 – in fact it probably has to be done sooner or later either way. That being said, I believe that it would be beneficial for feature requests to provide examples of practical benefits that the request would bring in / problems it would solve :)

Hi Teppo,

I mean't to say 'if it's no longer'. I was wondering if there was any technical reason behind the upgrade not happening (for example licence changes).

The reason behind the change really, is nothing more than aesthetics and having access to more icons.

One thing to consider is that Jam Icons and Font Awesome are not 1-to-1, so any icons already set in an existing PW installation that does not have an equivalent in Jam Icons would be lost.

I don't know about Jam Icons, but I would also request a serious update of the Font Awesome icon set to a more recent set, for instance V6 free.
