LeechBlock NG (Next Generation) for Chrome is a simple productivity tool designed to block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day. All you need to do is specify which sites to block and when to block them.
Typical situations are like: When I start to use Chrome the first time on a day. Leachblock says my time limit is used up.
Some possibilities:
The bug caught: I have the first unambiguous evidence that LB goes wrong. A certain amount of time limit will be eaten up, even if the browser is stopped on allowed sites. And this is not that LB counts time limit when it should not count, but the time is just randomly eaten up! It happened that 15mins were eaten up, given the real, physical, time was passed only about 3 mins! (Also sometimes the time limit was nearly not eaten up, it seems just random.) And I believe this does not always happen, or I should have noticed it long ago. Updated: Now, after ~2 hours, the bug seems disappeared, mysteriously.
I have a block set with a rule to match all sites (by adding "*" in a line). Afaik, "chrome-extension://" pages (so, including LB's "blocked.html" page) are not counted into "*". I am not sure if this has other effects.
The multiple desktops mode on Mac. What happens If I leave a matched page in foreground, but switch to another desktop? Afaik, LB again works well in this situation.
It seems long ago when I used Firefox (then based on Gecko), this did not happen. But I also changed LB setting, so I am not sure.
I basically always leave the browser open, but make sure it is in the background when not used.
I also encountered other situations during a day when the time limits are mysteriously used up.
The problem happens once a week or so.
This makes Leachblock nearly unusable for me, because I apply very restrictive rules. (And I guess, if this problem has not been reported by others, it is very possibly because my rules force me to face this problem).
I think this would be hard to fix (if I did not make some mistakes). However, Leachblock is the most powerful tool I can find of its kind, and I really hope this problem could be addressed,
