Different run scenarios may want to specify not only channels but also the Mantis run params. In particular, we may want to do runs at different digitization rates or, in the future, with different numbers of channels. Also it is another place one could store info for the egg file header's description field (the run script that generated the egg is potentially of interest if nothing else).
