JAVA warning #1

Closed chaelli closed 9 years ago

Hi

I started to get the attached error messages. I thought it would help to use the applet directly from here: http://clic.xtec.cat/dist/jclic/ to get the most current version which would solve the problem.. but it didn't...

you can test this on www.below.ch/rump/18630-s-1-3kl-derwildehund/

am I doing something wrong? Can this be solved? do I need to compile the software myself?

Cheers Michael

Hi Michael,

This warning message appears because the JClic applet is digitally signed with a certificate issued by a CA (Certification Authority) that is currently not recognized by Oracle Java. This CA is called "Agencia Catalana de Certificació" (http://www.catcert.cat/). Certificates issued by this CA are used only by the Government and local authorities of Catalonia. The people responsible for the CA say that they have send the root certificates to Oracle, but so far have not been included in the list of recognized institutions.

We are trying to buy a digital signature certificate issued by a worldwide company (like Verisign, Thawte, etc) so all users will be able to use JClic without this warnings. We hope to have it at the end of December.

The "B" plan is to continue using the "CatCERT" digital signature, and instruct users to manually download and install the root certificates into they local Java machines. It's not very difficult, but annoying. So we prefer to wait a while for the "good" signature credentials.

Best regards,

Francesc Busquets

Hi

thanks a lot for the explanation. This sounds great - there's really no other tool that does what this one can do.

Thanks for taking care of it!

Cheers Michael

The JClic applet is signed with an official VeriSign certificate from March 25 2014, so this issue can be closed.
