Not able to pick up local balloons #743

Closed InnovateFusionLLC closed 1 year ago

InnovateFusionLLC commented 1 year ago

I have been trying to trouble shoot this for a few day and I can not seem to pick up balloons that are being a few km launched south of me twice a say. The one in the air right now is DFM17 22045109 is bing picked up by station name KE4GLA-8 at more that 100km further away than me. As far as I can tell tell everything seems to be working correctly however I will note that I am having issues with running most of the testing applications relating to cmake and not being able to find modules example from attempting to install :

Here is a copy of my station.conf

The Antenna is on my roof so it should have straight line of sight.

I have also reinstalled cmake with snap but it has me in version version 3.18 which I believed should be 3.25.1?

darksidelemm commented 1 year ago

This is sounding like a RF issue.

Was that scan plot produced while there was a radiosonde in the air? (that you could see on sondehub.org, for example)

Yes... this is one that was launched a few days before and it's when I was trying a different antenna but the results are the same. I do have the samples from yesterday that I retrieved via sondehub.com that I'll drop in the drop box link with my station.conf file. Here you can see another station (KE4GLA-8 ) that is even further away that pics it up. There is an additional station (KB3ZOX_RDZTTGO_Chase) that also picks it up in shown in the other image. sorry I forgot to attach that. You can see how close it's path is the me here.

I did just get in a Comet DS-150s antenna that I can also try, but I feel that the 7in fiberglass antenna should pickup fine considering it's about 15-18 ft in the air.

Unfortunately until I can figure out the cmake module issue I can not get any of the calibration applications to work correctly. I could make a beacon if someone can point me in the right direction. Everything I am finding is like the mysoundy which I believe only receives signal? I do have a HiLetgo ESP32 LoRa SX1278 with a 240MHz CP2102 and 433/470MHz Antenna on hand. As well as several different ESP32s and high band LoRa dev boards.

Sure, but unless its showing up on the scan plot, it'll never get decoded. Your scan plot doesn't show a signal at 403.01 MHz.

Oh yea... that scan plot was done while the ballon referenced in the original post was in the air.

*** I'll try a different RTL-SDR AND Nooelc Luna

InnovateFusionLLC commented 1 year ago

I swiped to a different RTL-SDR and NOOELEC Luna and also what made the main different was that I swapped to a NOOELEC RattleSnake antenna (3 blue rings). we will see later today if it works. I have it in my attic right now, so it it doesn't work ill move it up to the roof. I am guess that this fiberglass antenna I got off Amazon is no the correct one?

That antenna should have been fine, but perhaps it has a fault, or there is some other connection issue.

InnovateFusionLLC commented 1 year ago

Problem solved!! I could not get 2 SDRs working, but for now we are doing what is needed. Now I just need to put the antenna in the roof. Along with my Comet DS-150S and start working on SDR setup for HF, UHF/VHF, and WinLink. If someone knows a good amp to use for all that please let me know.
