PODCAST INTRO: Intro Clip: 20:30- 20:55 Hi everyone! Welcome back to (name of podcast). I'm Miri Chan, one of your co- hosts, and today we are joined by Kunal Anand. Kunal is the Chief Technology Officer at Imperva, a leading cybersecurity company, and his path to this role is quite interesting. Kunal studied business in college with the intent of continuing his family business. However, throughout his education, he discovered his love for technology by taking classes through Harvard and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Kunal decided that he wanted to pursue a career in tech rather than business and aligned his education to match his goal of straying away from the family business to explore the world of constant new inventions within technology. From his hard work and curiosity to be a part of something that would flip the world, the job offers started flooding in. He received an offer from NASA along with many other fast- growing tech companies. Kunal decided that he wanted to be apart of something that would change the world, rather than do something for the high salary and he declined his other high- paying offers for a government salary at NASA.

After working there for a few years, he noticed a new spark in the world of social networking and transitioned to work at MySpace. His time at MySpace was during the early development stages of the company and in this interview, he describes his experiences working there before the peak in popularity of social networking. He shares a piece of advice from his mentor in this interview that urges young graduates to explore careers in different industries and companies in the early stages of your career journey before settling down. Kunal took this piece of advice and hopped around for a few years to companies that he believed were going to change the world before deciding to take matters into his own hands and found his own company.

Kunal is the co- founder of Prevoty, a company that strived to transform cybersecurity and how these companies protect their customers. Kunal speaks about how Prevoty was formed more based off a relationship, than an idea. He met his co- founder, Julian, at a technology incubator and after being hired there, Kunal found out that Julian wanted to leave. They both had similar goals of one day having their own company and their relationship sparked from there. Julian took a look at what Kunal had been building, they both quit their jobs, and Prevoty was born. Kunal emphasizes how it was the trust and bond that he had built with Julian that allowed this partnership to create Prevoty.

In this interview, Kunal reveals the struggles he went through as an early stage entrepreneur and how he often had to look at his company from an outside perspective which developed his humility. In the end, his perseverance led him and Julian to establishing Prevoty as a strong competitor in the cybersecurity industry. Kunal also gives advice to other entrepreneurs who may be having a difficult time developing their first round of capital.

After six years, Prevoty was acquired by Imperva. Kunal had looked up to Imperva for quite some time so the fact that his startup become a competitor to one of the leaders within the cybersecurity industry speaks to his perseverance and success. Kunal has become a veteran within the field of technology and cybersecurity and his motivation of working to change the world rather than for compensation is truly inspiring.

If you have an entrepreneurial drive or want to be a part of some larger organization that is changing the world, Kunal's advice is sure to inspire you. His experiences within the field of technology and cybersecurity have led Prevoty and Imperva to great success even though his original plan as a student was to continue his family business. Stay tuned to hear how Kunal was able to achieve his goal of changing the world throughout his career journey.

CAPTION:

Are you pursuing a career because you want to change the world or because you want financial stability? This is one of the questions Kunal Anand, the CTO of Imperva, had to ask himself when he began his career journey back in 2004. Early in his career Kunal decided that he was going to go to bed each night being led by the motivation that he wants to change the world and be a part of something big not just chasing dollars. And that is exactly what he did. Through companies such as NASA and MySpace, Kunal got to be at the forefront of technology. Check out this interview to hear his advice for entrepreneurs, his thought process for making large career decisions, and his recommendations for students wanting to pursue their passions.

I think the intro is getting a little too "sticatto". It means that it is jumping from one thing to the next without much flow. I suspect when you do the recording of it we'll have to change it, but I want to really emphasize after these interviews I want to push for more narrative rather than a bio someone would read when introducing someone for a speech.

Also you're missing the intro clip

@mirichann the front half of the intro is still to jilting. It doesn't have flow
