Intro

Hello hello everyone (EXCITED AND WITH ENERGY) welcome back to Office Hours. A show about how to make a successful jump from college to young professional life. We know that landing your first job can often be an intimidating, complicated and stressful process, but its not impossible! (UP ENERGY) And we’re here to help by giving you access to some of the brightest minds in business to get their advice for how to build a successful career. Take what you can (short pause), pick what you like and listen for that stroke of brilliance that you can use to help you get hired.

I'm Caroline Radke and on today’s episode with Brett and Arseniy we have their conversation with Patrick Brothers, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HolonIQ. Today Patrick sits at the nexus of social impact and entrepreneurship with the enviable opportunity to be identifying and supporting the next generation of companies that will transform our world.

(Background) Patrick Brothers started out by studying Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of New South Wales in Australia. It was here while he was still unsure about what he wanted to do for his career that his professor at the time told him that he couldn't ever imagine him sitting behind a desk for the rest of his life. He laughs about it now, but this chat led to a period of self-reflection where he figured out that he wanted to be both mentally and physically challenged, so he then became an army officer and gained valuable leadership and teamwork skills. In the military even though he was only 22 years old, he had the chance to lead a team of 30 people on combat operations and believes the experience was so formative that he would start his career like this every time if he had to do it over again. When he left the military, he went to get an MBA before going into consulting which gave him exposure to hundreds of different companies, but after this part of his career he came to the realization that he wanted to have a thoughtful impact on one company. This led him to become the entrepreneur we see now as the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HolonIQ.

HolonIQ was founded in 2018 and is the world's leading research and analytics platform for the global impact economy. It is headquartered in New York with offices in London and Sydney as well. They operate in the climate, education and healthcare spaces. They have critical intelligence on the global impact economy, understand changing markets, size markets and forecast demand, measure and benchmark impact, power digital transformation, identify partners and investments, and anticipate competitor strategy.

(Analysis) In this interview, we hit many important points for students trying to figure out where their early career paths may be headed and the crucial decisions that come along with that. He also talks about the process of making important life decisions and expands on the importance of being open to meeting new people as well as growing your network early. We’re super excited to share this one with all of you, so lets get right into it…
