CUT I'm Caroline Radke and today’s episode is from our host, Brett, where he chats with Ori Edry who is a Strategic Investments and Partnerships Analyst at Pearson Education Ventures. Ori has extensive experience in the venture capital industry, among others, and also boasts an international career, putting him in a great position to provide insight into how to be successful in today's changing professional environment.

CUT

(Background) Ori Edry graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Economics, magna cum laude. He didn't have a junior year summer internship and was looking for a job in his senior year. He found it super important to get involved in different career events around campus and meet as many new people as possible. In a little bit of foreshadowing, he talks about this today too and gives you some advice regarding being inquisitive. He believes that putting yourself out there and exposing yourself to all your different opportunities allows you to help luck help you. He's had positions as a Management Consulting Analyst, Venture Capital Analyst, Private Equity Analyst, and most recently, Venture Capital Analyst. And even though he is pretty early in his career, it has taken him from Israel, to the US, and now the UK, and has stories to share from all three.

Pearson Education Ventures where Ori works is the corporate venture capital arm of Pearson and is based in London, United Kingdom. The firm seeks to invest in education technology companies. They are committing $50M to fund next-gen edtech startups and invest in companies that aim to build new market opportunities by using innovative business models, future technologies, and new educational experiences.

(Analysis) In this interview we hit various points for students aspiring to pursue a career in finance. We'll begin by hearing about how he compares his experiences around the world, and then proceed to learn about how he got involved in his current industry. As a student who found a job in his senior year, this is crucial advice for all students out there. Not only does he share his take on the recruiting process, as it can be very difficult for students and companies alike, but he also explains how he was successful as an international student who was limited to the time constraints of CPT and OPT authorization. The conversation today is truly something unique, so let's get right into it...
