While he has had an incredible entrepreneurial run, he has shifted focus and today he focuses his time on making capital investments through his own firm 75 & Sunny.

(Stats Macro-theme, background)

Decentralization. What is it? Decentralization is defined as the transfer of control of an activity or organization to several local offices or authorities rather than one single one. But, what does that have to do with the workplace? Everything, actually. In a post-covid world, the potential of widespread influence in a company has been fully realized through the capabilities of remote work, online business, and improved teams. We’ve seen a complete outsourcing of crucial decision making from the core of a company to the outer branches. Gone are the days of the CEO knowing the most or calling all the shots. With the workplace evolved to make divisions and individuals more important than they were in the past, how do we go about preparing for that kind of workplace?

Spencer Rascoff is truly a master of his craft, understanding wholly the power and capabilities of the new decentralized workplace. He’s a genius entrepreneur, founding bombshell organizations like Zillow, Hotwire, Pacaso, and Supernova. Today, while continuing to manage those groups, he spends most of his time at 75 & Sunny Ventures. Through his work on these projects, he’s gained an incredible understanding of this new professional world we’re all learning. In his early career, he was a reporter and In that role, centralization is rare, as each person in a group works on their own projects or topics. That background may have set him up perfectly for this new world, as his extensive time in leadership roles has seen him develop managing organizations with powerful branches. A great point of his that embodies his leadership skills: He works for those who report to him.

For those unfamiliar, 75 & Sunny is an investment firm based in Los Angeles. On average, they invest in 20-30 startups annually in the creative economy, future of work, and tech spaces. They are not just about supporting their investments with capital either, they also provide active support from leadership coaching, marketing, strategy, brand development, and recruiting to their entire portfolio.

(Analysis)

Like I’ve discussed, this interview is based around finding a career path of your own in a decentralized workplace. What does that mean? It means we talk about finding happiness early on rather than money. We talk about taking risks and maximizing opportunities. He has great advice on gaining knowledge and leadership experience early on, and notes on how to manage effectively in the new professional world. He goes over his own strategies in management, the power of listening, and finding valuable mentors in online spaces. This is a great interview from someone with immense knowledge on modern professionalism, and we’re very excited to share it with all of you. Here we go…
