Intro

Hello hello everyone (EXCITED AND WITH ENERGY) welcome back to Office Hours. A show about how to make a successful jump from college to young professional life. We know that landing your first job can often be an intimidating, complicated and stressful process, but its not impossible! (UP ENERGY) And we’re here to help by giving you access to some of the brightest minds in business to get their advice for how to build a successful career. Take what you can (short pause), pick what you like and listen for that stroke of brilliance that you can use to help you get hired.

I'm Caroline Radke and with my co-host Brett we chat with Hina Patel, the Chief Growth Officer at Microsoft. She has learned both the art and science of selling throughout her career, and has extensive experience in digital transformation, strategic planning, and operations.

(Background) Although Hina is now the Chief Growth Officer at Microsoft, she started out as a 12 year old, learning the art of selling from her father while working at a flea market. Now, she is responsible for driving growth strategies across the company's diverse portfolio of products and services. She is regarded as a highly innovative and strategic thinker, with a focus on identifying new growth opportunities and driving transformational change. Hina hold a Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies from the University of Westminster. Hina is a highly respected leader in the technology industry, with a proven track record of driving growth and innovation at one of the world's largest and most influential technology companies. It was a long road, but a well thought out path. She says that she realized quite early on that she hated change, but after applying for an exchange program and doing a six month placement in Australia, she began to embrace her new international bug.

I'm sure you all know of Microsoft, where Hina works, but to clarify, it is an American multinational technology corporation. It was founded in 1975 and is headquartered in Redmond, Washington. The company is best known for its Windows operating system and its suite of productivity software, including Microsoft Office. Recently, Microsoft has shifted its focus to becoming a leader in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The company's cloud service, Azure, has become a major player in the cloud computing market, with customers ranging from small businesses to large corporations. Microsoft also continues to invest heavily in research and development, with a particular focus on developing new technologies that can help address some of the world's biggest challenges, including climate change and healthcare.

(Analysis) In this interview, we touch on important points that any student should hear. Whether it is about building a value-focused, quality network, the importance of mentorship throughout your career, or having both the curiosity and courage to take risks in your career, Hina has the advice you need to hear. Being curious and attentive to those around you, as well as broadening your experiences and embracing change, especially internationally, allows you to build a better, more quality-focused network early on. There was a lot packed into this episode and we are excited to share this one with you so let's get straight into it...
