Caption: We came to Gerald Wilson knowing that we will get top-of-the-line risk management advice, suggestions on how students can get into the field, and what he looks for in a candidate. We were not disappointed. But what we did not expect was to conduct our longest ever, and one of our best ever interviews. We walked away with as much life advice as career advice. Gerald opened up and spoke about everything from risk management to parenting lifestyles, from how to build a team to the forgotten need for delayed gratification. Gerald is a remarkable person that knows how to educate and at the same time excite everyone around him.

Intro: Clip: 33:00 - 33:42 I PREFER THIS ONE BECAUSE IT IS MORE OF A HOOK OR 37:36 - 38:33 BUT THIS ONE HAS A LITTLE BIT MORE CAREER ADVICE

Description of the overall podcast (same sentences): Hello everyone and welcome back to Executives Uncensored where we talk to the executives you want to hear from about the things we don’t know enough about. We know that landing your first job is a complicated, stressful and uncertain campaign, but we're here to say its not impossible. To help you along the path, we are getting the inside knowledge from leaders across the business world on get their advice regarding how to build a successful career. Take what you can, pick what you like and listen for that stroke of genius that will help get you hired.

Story: As students, it is not always very clear to what the future holds. The path forged ahead is never etched in stone and sometimes its hard to even see ahead to what classes we should take next semester. We often don't know what we are actually good at or how to the incredibly intimidating question what do want to do after college. This could be a little threatening and scary at the moment, but if we look back on most of our decisions we rarely regret the big ones. Of course, we are not sure of the outcomes beforehand and uncertainty is frightening but it's simply unavoidable. And so, perhaps it's this very uncertainty that builds character and develops our skillsets, and naturally compels us to do what we want to do. Gerald Wilson certainly thinks so. Today he talks about so many rich topics like risk vs reward, how to find what you are truly good at, not worrying about what others think, how to take advantage of boredom and uninteresting classes, and he even drops a hint about the secret of happiness. Gerald is one of those people that you want to have sitting at your dinner table because the conversation never dies and the laughter doesn't stop. I'm being absolutely honest when I say he not only gives out career advice over the next hour and a half, but has some very deep insights about life as well.

Quickly on how the person went from Point A to Point B: Gerald's personal career journey is a story of its own. He went to school as an engineer and started working in the nuclear industry upon graduation. He moved on from nuclear engineering to a more senior position where he started aiding businesses to get back up on their feet when the going got tough. He continued into the risk industry because he understood how to make calculated decisions that would enable the business to excel in the long run and he liked solving the problems associated with it. A nuclear engineer to head of risk management you ask? Well its not as weird as you might think and Gerald explains why it was in fact a pretty natural transition.

Bio on the individual/company: Now Gerald is the Chief Risk Officer for USAA Insurance which is a Fortune 500 company that sells policies to those currently serving in the military, their families, and veterans. USAA is a member-owned organization and was actually started by 26 military men that ganged together to insure themselves when regular companies wouldn't back in 1922. Gerald tells us that USAA is the perfect fit for him since he served in the Marines and can now use his risk management skills to propel this mission-driven insurance company forward.

Transition to podcast: It is truly amazing to hear all of Gerald's stories and how he ties everything together piece by piece. His career is more of a journey than the one Bilbo Baggins took and it all started where you and I are today, as a student. See you on the other side...

@ArseniySky I don't like the caption...it makes it seem like he didn't have any advice for career. I think you've got to get a bit more emotive. Like it shouldnt be that we walked away with the longest interview. It's more like we were so interested by what he has to say that we ended up spending over 2 hours with him.

@ArseniySky I'm almost positive there is deadspace in the interview that needs to get cut from the podcast. Those cuts have to be timestamped in here.

@ArseniySky I don't get the audio cut that you have. I don't think the 33:00-33:44 is the most interesting point of the convo/a cliff hanger to open the show. Its more about his daughter than any kind of advice so I'm a little confused why you selected it. Happy to be persuaded though
