installation instructions #9

Hi,

This tool looks very promising. I would like to monitor for smart-errors on my external hdds. However I'm not so familiar setting this up. Is there any installation instructions?

I already have a node-exporter, prometheus and grafana instance running. Thanks for your help!

I did this now with a separate text-file-collector. This additionally provides you with the ability to dump any metrics with very simple script into prometheus, so the possibilities besides smartmon stats is endless.

This is the smartmon.sh script I use for detecting smart-errors (with some reference links): See below (1)

And then I use a wrapper script to dump the output into a text metric file which is picked up as metric later by node-exporter and passes it to prometheus: See below (2)

This script I just call with crontab regularly

The node-exporter is running with docker-compose which outputs usual metrics but also picks up any additional text files such as the smartmon metrics. See the docker-compose file I use: (3) Mainly important here is the additional arguments which pass the path to the directory where the textfile metrics are put by the above smartmon script (argument: collector.textfile.directory)

Hope that helps! Cheers
