Some ideas:

  1. Bring back the old aqeq. (Why not?)
  2. Increase refund for selling aqeq and disenchanting up to 90%.
  3. AQEQ 3.0 -- instead of improving from scratch, allow players to pick a piece of stock eq to convert into aqeq, and add a certain number of enchantments.

Because fixed location/stats meant it was always best-in-category

Every caster wore the aq cloak because nothing was comparable, everyone wore the aq floatie, etc.

I want more variety in what people choose to wear, hence this, #4, #2, etc.

Arguably, the new aq cloak is not worse than the old aq cloak for casters: 120hp / 120mana / -10saves / -120ac vs 300hp / -30ac? The triple AC bonus on the torso slot makes it even harder for stock eq to compete in that slot.

Another idea on the same topic:

  1. Better default strings for the current aqeq. Personally, I find that the old school strings add a lot of allure to the old aqeq. What if we held a quest to solicit a better set of default strings?

Right, but it doesn't have to be a cloak now.

With old aq, it was obvious: get the cloak, it's better than any stock.

This also meant there was little point building a stock cloak, or Imms rewarding quest cloaks.

Now? Right now there's still not many good stock cloaks but that's fixable with some building - but not every sorc is wearing an aq cloak now - maybe they went light/legs/shield or light/shield/floatie.

It's not a huge change, sure, but it's still added more scope for variety and choice, which is something I want to improve and increase!

Obviously, not a huge priority.

Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean please? I'm not sure I follow
