To prevent losing items that popped off due to align change, but went unnoticed until after a reboot. Maybe with some nominal cost (10 aqps?)

I'm not sure how much our new codebase likes saveover, but I think this is a neat idea.

I would probably suggest a higher cost so it doesn't get over used. Maybe 100-200aqps though.

Maybe the flag could be automatically added if you restring an item. That is, after all, a pretty good sign you don't want to lose it...
