Improve error messages on login to help with debugging #143

It would be helpful if the error message would indicate what actually happened so that we'll get better reports from users, i.e. in this case that the connected server doesn't seem to support WS connections.

Possible causes:

Server doesn't support Websockets
CORS problem
Mistyped Jabber address
