Describe the bug

From WC:

I tested a bit on my home laptop/home internet. Still have the same problem when using Chrome – it takes 3 to 4 times for some documents to load.

version: Version 101.0.4951.67 (Official Build) (64-bit)

4 refreshes to get https://www.williamsnd.com/documents/williams-county-road-map/ to show up

But https://www.williamsnd.com/documents/2022-proposed-county-road-projects/ loaded immediately.

This is what it looks like when something doesn’t load:

In testing right now back at work, the doc on https://www.williamsnd.com/documents/2022-proposed-county-road-projects/ loaded the first time, but then I went to a different page, and it did not load when I came back to it:

@lukefretwell I think this one is worth prioritizing, or at least, prioritize researching the cause.

More from WC:

I have another example if you want it: https://www.williamsnd.com/documents/williams-county-development-guide/

Takes 2-3 refreshes for it to display in both Chrome and Firefox.

It's a platform-wide item for the PDF preview that past discussions have yielded a caching issue. @curtismchale could there be a wp-rocket setting that helps or resolves the document previewer?

curtismchale commented 2 years ago

@kevindherman One of my initial guesses would be caching so we should revisit this once we drop W3TC and have WP Rocket up and running.

No errors jump out to me in developer tools to say why this wouldn't be loading.

kevindherman commented 2 years ago

@curtismchale Sounds like a plan.

curtismchale commented 2 years ago

@kevindherman @lukefretwell I don't see this...even when I throttle my internet to 3G speeds. They just load.

Can you confirm that this problem still exists?

kevindherman commented 2 years ago

@curtismchale it is still an issue but does appear to happen less.

I just experienced this with this doc: https://west-milton-oh.proudcity.com/documents/special-event-permit/

First view of the document: Screen Shot 2022-10-13 at 9 19 22 AM

After hard refresh: Screen Shot 2022-10-13 at 9 19 52 AM

@kevindherman When I've clicked these links I'm always logged out...are you always logged in? Might it be something with being logged in vs out? I'd love it if we found this again if you could try and test for that in another browser.

kevindherman commented 2 years ago

@curtismchale happened logged out in incognito: Screen Shot 2022-10-17 at 9 52 52 AM Then was fine with a hard refresh. https://west-milton-oh.proudcity.com/documents/variance-form/
