Open richb-hanover opened 9 years ago
@richb-hanover I'd love if we could do this. I worry that we may not be able to make it before CC releases but It's certainly worth a try.
Well, since I've done all this kvetching, I better volunteer for something :-)
I will take a stab at editing the OpenWrt home page (#12) and the top-level wiki page (part of #13). I'll post here (and on the forum) when I have something that's good enough to criticize.
(And even if we only fix a few top-level pages by the time CC hits the streets, we'll be better off.)
NB I don't know how to assign these to myself. I'll leave a quick comment on each.
@richb-hanover you should be able to do it on the right side with assignee. And you're not kvetching... or if you are it's for the best!
@richb-hanover - one of the things we have found that the community (outside the core team) finds lacking is a roadmap of sorts. Simplistically, something like "Chaos Calmer is currently planned to be launched with kernel x.y, include major kernel networking enhancements , key package improvements , new security frameworks __, ...", you get the idea. That would also help focus the OpenWrt community on what things to test in the new release as it is being stabilized. On the current home page you see announcements of what's already been released (BB, AA, and earlier...), but not what's coming and how to help make it happen. Schedules are problematic because of the community nature of the development, but perhaps we could also help track the high-level status of what planned activities are complete, and what remains before the next release can be finalized.
@kgiori - Good questions. Chaos Calmer rc1 shipped yesterday, so some of them are fleshed out. I agree about deadlines, but as long as the release candidates are solid, we can stick to the rule, "We will ship no software before its time."
Please see my update to the Home Page #12 and chime in on the thread on the OpenWrt forum at https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=276952#p276952
The upcoming release of the Chaos Calmer build of OpenWrt helps to frame the discussion of updating the site pages.
The developers have been hard at work on CC, and an rc1 may be available soon. https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=275563#p275563
It would be very slick to be able to announce a new, reinvigorated web presence at the same time that OpenWrt CC hits the streets. This doubles the impact, and makes it much more feasible for new people to join in.
