6 months ago Check "Preferences->GUI->Show sidebar expand/collapse button". You should get a button in the top-right corner that will get your sidebar back. You might have accidentally collapsed it with Shift-Tab keyboard shortcut.
Maybe we should show the button when the sidebar is collapsed regardless of the state of that checkbox.
