Describe the issue

I tried following the mister mario video on loading games off usb, but when he gets to the settings part where you choose the start mode for usb and the path manager, on my ps2s (models 79001 and 50001) I instead get block device manager, is there something I missed or is his video outdated?

Console model

50001 & 70001

OPL version / revision

OPL Stable 1.1.0

In which device(s) have you experienced this issue?

USB

Context and extra information

Settings different from guide

Your video is indeed outdated. Starting from opl 1.1.0, BDM (Block Device Manager) is a general layer between OPL and all block devices. Where version up until 1.0.0 only supported USB, versions 1.1.0 and above also support iLink and MX4SIO.

If you are only interested in playing UBS games, just follow your tutorial but use BDM menu items instead of USB in the video. So set BDM Start Mode to Auto, and Default Menu to BDM Games. Under the Block Devices menu you can check if USB is enabled. (Should always be on).

Ok, a couple of quick checks:

I think the usb drive works with the ps2 since I am able to access the files from my ps2, and I am able to get into the game list, but it won't list the games, even if I boot opl from the usb itself Edit, I checked the amazon listing. it is 2.0 edit 2, i tested with my sd to usb adapter and it now shows the games

Ok, a couple of quick checks:

  • BDM Start Mode set to Auto
  • Default Menu set to BDM Games
  • BDM Prefix Path empty, or set to the correct path if your OPL folders aren't in the root of your USB drive

    • If your usb drive is set up like in the video, BDM Prefix Path should be left empty
  • If you remove your usb drive and insert it again, does OPL show a loading indicator?
  • Are you using a USB 3.0 drive, sometimes these are incompatible with the PS2
