missing \affil or \email breaks compilation #3

If the author does not define \author or \email, compilation breaks, e.g.,

! Undefined control sequence.

No pages of output.

Latexmk: Log file says no output from latex
Latexmk: For rule 'pdflatex', no output was made
Collected error summary (may duplicate other messages):
Latexmk: Errors, so I did not complete making targets
  pdflatex: Command for 'pdflatex' gave return code 256
Latexmk: Use the -f option to force complete processing,
