@ryu-ketsueki would you care to elaborate a bit the setup of the system you took that nice screenshot from? I guess it is vala-panel-appmenu on XFCE, right? Which theme and which icons did you use? Which applets do you use on the right side of your menu bar? Latte dock? Thanks.

This is something that could give your applet window menu an edge over the native appmenu. On XFCE and other DEs, there is a way of using Vala Appmenu. One of the features of Vala is to show the options Desktop, Files, Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos when no app is open. With this feature, an otherwise empty space in the panel can now be populated with something useful. Additionally, there could be an option to configure what is displayed.
