Hi
Got now to try it out and must say it looks much nicer again. Video is perfect as well. So now up to the release!
Version 0.3.0 is out in the world... :) both in project's homepage and kde-apps... :)
the new plasma theme support became better that I was ever hoping ... Small adjustments can be definetely added in the future but the plasmoid looks extremely beautiful (at least for me :) ) when uses the default plasma theme... )
If anyone has marketing ideas etc. to promote this effort feel free to carry them out... I want this project to be as open as possible...
Regards, Michail
P.S. I am going to take a small break for 2-3 days, the previous month was full of coding, I am going to celebrate it a bit... :)
Congratulations to the release and get yourself some time off, it was lots of work. As others have put it already in KDE apps the plasmoid is almost perfect ;) already
Started like a game... :) to see if I can make the WorkFlow plasmoid a kwin script... I dont think you will believe me but it took me one day with a lot of help of course from the kwin developers... :). This, of course is not because of my good programming skills but because of the fantastic design around KDE...
I have to tweak it a lot but it is here and it works already as long as someone has already installed the plasmoid (>=0.3.0) which provides the needed (data engine and workflow components... :) ) ... The experiment code is here: https://github.com/psifidotos/kwin-script-workflow
and I think that two weeks is enough to make it as polish as possible... In some areas is already better, in some other some tweaks are needed but it is here... :)
See you around everyone...
Well the KWin script is ready for all the adventurous... :) I use it all day... :) after installation the user can use the BottomLeft Corner to trigger it or a global shortcut that can change from system settings(Meta+Ctrl+Z)...
Some screenshots from kwin.... The first image is the kwin script the second the plasmoid....
PLEASE, if someone has installed the development branch after 0.3.0 release then check out that the file:
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/workareamanagerd.service
does not exist... If so, delete it....
Well everything is in place for version 0.4.0 which I believe will be compatible from KDE >= 4.9 :) So around 10-14 days to make this happen .... :) I'll help a bit with documentation (hidden features etc.), update version numbers, contributors, translators etc....
That is because two features (multiple backgrounds per activity and cloning activities with VDs with different widgets) were implemented unexpectedly fast... :) Strange thing is that the second feature worked out of the box unexpectedly:)...
Cheers, Michail
Well do we need this feature now? Hello everyone, version 0.4.0 has to been cleaned up a bit but it is almost ready for release. One feature that creates a debate is for the WorkFlow plasmoid to create a trigger for the kwin script instead of poping up...
The question is: Do we need kwin script triggering from the main WorkFlow plasmoid now that a dedicated plasmoid exists to do this job? (BTW, the new plasmoid doesnot have any issues with the CompactRepresentation, so if someone uses the kwin script in combination with: https://github.com/psifidotos/plasmoid-kwin-script-launcher will not meet any issues with the icon in the panel)
Hi, did not try the kwin script launcher plasmoid but does it show the current activity icon? I guess not otherwise it would also suffer from the same bug of CompactRepresentation. Anyways, I think it is nice to have these two features, as I want to see in my panel from the icon on which activity I currently am and then would prefer to be able to chose if I want to have a fullscreen manager (i.e. the kwin script) or a smaller windowed plasmoid to manage my windows and desktops. So in a way I would say it is a useful feature to have the kwin script being triggered from the plasmoid. It somehow also does not split up the project into yet another plasmoid but there would be just two components (plasmoid+kwin script) that could eventually be shipped together and installed at the same time. Thus the user can decide how they want the UI to be (fullscreen or windowed).

The launcher does not have any issue with CompactRepresentaion because it doesnt use it at all (it doesnt show a popup), but all the appearance and behavior is exactly like the official plasmoid icon one with the indicator included...

Interesting... I was not planning to release everything in one package. I would release only the plasmoid with all necessary libs, and the user can install very easy from GetHotNewStuff online all the other pieces, e.g. kwin-script, plasmoid-launcher....
Ok, the one package thing was only an idea. But I think you are right, that they need to be separate as the QML-only parts can be distributed through GHNS.
Well there will be a 0.4.0 release during this weekend. I hope to be able to manage it because 3 elements are going to released this time... :) announcements, screenshots etc.
the video is ready... :)
A way to communicate through github with anyone interested...
