Download numbers appear to be completely made up #628

I took down one of my packages off of PyPi, lib-caida-collector a while ago. The site however, still shows consistent downloads, including today. How is that possible? I worry that the downloads for packages are somehow higher than they should be.

Here is another example. I made a pypi package in 2018 that literally just prints my name. Some how this shows 28k downloads. Huh?

I even donated to this project but at this point I gotta say I am very skeptical of these results.

Not to mention the downloads for lib-justin-furuness are for the oldest version of the package. As if someone is depending on an old version of my package that just prints my name, and is downloading it every day lol.

This sucks. I thought a lot of people were using my projects but these numbers are clearly not even close to accurate.
